I’ve always enjoyed water as an element in my work. This summer I havent utilised the opportunities with warm water even though the fall is coming what seems rapidly. Therefore we decided to pull together a water themed shoot together with Juuli. In the end our editorial was based on Japanese pearl hunting culture.

These brave women could hold their breath for over two minutes in cold water, working like this four hours a day. From the depths they were hoping to find pearls for sale. The only gear they used to have was a loincloth.

Now this 2000 year old tradition is slowly fading away because of overfishing and new fishing technologies.
